Our Programs and Services

Multi-Disciplinary Response

The Treehouse Child and Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC) provides a coordinated and collaborative response to child abuse. The Treehouse brings together police services, child protective services, victim services, and medical/mental health support services, to work collaboratively and ensure a comprehensive response to child abuse. The Treehouse facilitates coordination of these services, eliminating barriers and ensuring that vulnerable children receive the support they need. Our focus is to keep the needs of the child at the centre and provide all the necessary support to build resilience and move forward.

Remote Testimony Room

When approved by a judge, children and youth may have the option of testifying virtually in court from the comfortable and child-friendly space at The Treehouse. This mitigates the risk of the child coming face to face with their offender in or around the courthouse and allows children to testify in a safe and supported environment providing better testimony.

Child and Youth Counselling

The Treehouse is pleased to offer direct, individual treatment sessions for children and youth. Too often, children and youth who have experienced abuse face lengthy waitlists and complicated referral procedures making it difficult for them to access therapy promptly. This increases the risk of children falling through the cracks and never receiving the therapy they require. The Treehouse Counselling Connections for Children and Youth is specifically designed to circumvent these hurdles. Referrals are coordinated through The Treehouse Multi-Disciplinary Team, waitlists are minimal, and there is no cap on the number of sessions a child can attend. Counselling is provided by contracted clinicians with expertise in trauma treatment.

The Treehouse accepts referrals for therapy from parents and caregivers, from youth themselves, from social workers, victim advocates, police agencies, and from community and health service providers. If you or your child would like to meet a Treehouse therapist or would like more information, please speak directly to your victim service worker, social worker, or detective. Caregiver Counselling

Research consistently demonstrates the critical role parents play in their child’s successful recovery from abuse. However, parents often have traumatic reactions to the abuse their child experienced. It is common for parents to experience guilt and shame for not protecting their child from such atrocities. When parents receive professional support to understand and cope with their own reactions to their child’s abuse, they can be more present to support their child. The Treehouse provides therapeutic sessions to parents and caregivers of children and youth who are receiving services at The Treehouse. The sessions are delivered by an experienced trauma-focused therapist with academic credentials in counselling psychology.
